Economic and Investing Issues of an Aging Population

The world's population is aging. According to the World Health Organization, there will likely be 1.5 billion people aged 65 or over by 2050. This number is up from 703 million in 2019. So what does an aging population mean for your investments? First, an aging population means a shrinking workforce. In China, for example, longevity is already an issue. Older individuals will represent almost 40% of the population by 2050 - leading to a supply shortage of qualified workers. This, in turn, makes it more difficult for businesses to fill in-demand roles. A company that struggles to fill highly skilled roles faces serious consequences, from loss of productivity, higher labor costs, delayed business expansion, etc.

According to Adrian, an aging population with undoubtedly affect your portfolio. As more Americans leave the job market, ensure your portfolio is well-positioned to take advantage of market and investment opportunities and is protected against projected risks.
